What it takes to set up a heating repair business? Does it require too much investment? Does it require the purchase of specific equipment for heating repair work? What type of infrastructure you would need? There are so many questions that need to be answered and as you look for answers the task seems so problematic, but in reality it is not. Here is what you need to set up a home business in this line:
1. Find like-minded people or hire a few mechanics – you need to have a team of at least three to four people who are excellent at this work. There would always be a time when there would be two calls to attend and at such time you would need more people or you would lose business. Also, whenever there is a call, you should attend to the call in pairs for it not only looks professionals but also will be helpful in case of any major trouble.
2. Promote your group among the local people first – let your neighborhood know about your business. Organize a small seminar of matters pertaining to the cleaning and/ or maintenance of the heating system and announce the opening of your business on that occasion. Put posters in places where people circulate most – post office, grocery store, bus stop, gas station and so on.
3. Charge less, offer more services for your client– everybody loves a freebie. When they discover that you always do more for the fee you charge, they will go out of the way to promote your business for they would feel indebted for it. Make it a point to go the extra mile and make the customer feel delighted with your work.
4. Be dependable – it is very important that you are available to troubleshoot when the customer needs your services most. This is often non-office hours, on holidays and the like. Ensure that you are always available for your customers. When you are not, have a stand-by system whereby the customer could find relief no matter whether it is night or day or any holiday. Dependability is one of the most critical aspects of a business.
5. Expand – do not stagnate. Expand and keep expanding. You could expand in size, for example, from a team of 4 people you could increase to 10, and so on. You could diversify, for example, from your specialization in heating systems; you could offer insulation services, air conditioner repair, and the like. You need to keep growing so your customer would get more and more from you, which in turn would feel your business.
Pay attention to all the factors listed above and work very hard. There is no business that would not work if you put in enough hard work. Besides building an image of dependability and quality work in the market, you also need to ensure you grow financially. Save and invest as much money as you can in the first five years and only after you have a sizable safety net that you start living it up.
